Tips for Living Green

Install a programmable thermostat (NEST is great easy to install). Use compact, long-life fluorescent light bulbs.  During winter, change the filter in your furnace monthly (most a/c and heating professionals recommend changing every 3 months).  Use non-toxic cleaners in your home.  Buy furnishings constructed of natural materials.  Compost your food waste.  Cut down on paper products.  Depend on reusable items.  Think globally but buy locally.  Use rechargable or solar-charged batteries.  Avoid products with excess packaging.  Buy a couple of canvas bags to transport groceries.  Avoid the use of aerosols.  Never dispose of paint, solvents, motor oil in your garbage can.  Donate your old books to libraries or schools.  Donate your old photos and letters to your local historical society.  Donate those old appliances.  There are now contractors only building certified E-Homes.  These homes are not that much more expensive than a traditional new build.
